About Basis Energy
Our Basis Mission
Our role is to rethink how energy projects are contracted and financed by designing bespoke revenue solutions that unlock investment and enable projects to move from development to construction.
Australia’s energy transition does not need more projects, it needs more pathways to bankable revenue. Basis Energy was founded to address this gap. We believe the energy transition requires new financial architecture.
The Market Opportunity
Australia’s battery storage requirement is unprecedented. AEMO’s 2024 Integrated System Plan projects that dispatchable storage must grow from approximately 3 GW today to over 22 GW by 2030 and 49 GW by 2050.
Three forces are driving this: coal-fired generators are retiring, removing the stable pricing they provided. Wind and solar capacity is doubling, creating oversupply during the day and price compression. And electricity demand is growing as more of the economy electrifies.
Batteries are the solution. They store cheap energy and release it when demand is high. But unpredictable revenue means the majority of planned battery projects cannot secure finance. The need for a new revenue model has never been more urgent.
The Basis Approach
Basis Energy combines quantitative market modelling, structured revenue contracts, and active electricity market trading to deliver contracted income for battery storage assets.
Developers continue to own and operate the battery. Basis manages the revenue.
Our Leadership
Our leadership team brings decades of experience to bear on one of the defining challenges of our time, the transformation of Australia’s energy system. We are commercially driven, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects and structuring solutions that stand up in real markets.
Our collective experience spans the Australian energy value chain, combining deep market knowledge, financial structuring expertise, and an intimate understanding of how capital, infrastructure, energy markets and regulation intersect. This perspective allows us to navigate complexity with confidence and deliver outcomes that move beyond theory into execution.
We are powered by innovation, dedication, and a disciplined approach to problem-solving. Our work is guided by data, transparency, and a commitment to designing solutions that are both creative and credible, balancing the needs of developers, investors, and the communities in which projects are built.
Underpinning everything we do is a clear set of values and a shared mandate: to lead the energy transition responsibly and at scale. We are focused on delivering meaningful, measurable impact, unlocking investment, enabling critical infrastructure, and supporting Australia’s progress toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
